How does BrainYears™ compare to consumer neuro wearables that report a “brain age” or “focus score”?

Modified on Wed, 22 Apr at 7:33 PM

Some consumer wearables use EEG or other brain-sensing technology to report focus levels, attention scores, or even a “brain age.” These devices capture real brain-related signals, but typically from limited sensor positions (forehead or ears), in a resting or passive state, without controlled cognitive tasks. The result is a daily or weekly metric that reflects your current state — not a validated prediction of how your brain is aging.

BrainYears™ uses lab-grade midline EEG and event-related potentials captured during a standardized cognitive task to produce a functional brain age from 643 biomarkers, validated against a dataset of over 650 participants. The distinction is between monitoring brain activity and measuring brain function.
