How does BrainYears™ compare to tablet-based cognitive tests?

Modified on Wed, 22 Apr at 7:32 PM

Tablet or computer-based cognitive tests measure your outputs — reaction time, accuracy, memory recall. They are simple and inexpensive to administer. But they only show the result, not what’s happening inside the brain.

Two people could produce the same test score while their brains are working very differently — one running efficiently and the other under strain. BrainYears™ captures the brain’s electrical activity during the task, revealing not just the output but the process: how much neural effort it took, how efficiently the brain filtered distractions, how quickly it detected errors.

This is the difference between seeing how fast a car is going and looking under the hood at how hard the engine is working.
