Why is it important to quiet mental chatter during meditation or neurofeedback?

Mental chatter, also known as the narrative-based sense of self, can hinder our ability to access deeper states of awareness. When our minds are constantly occupied with thoughts, it's difficult to fully engage in the training experience. Quieting mental chatter allows us to go beyond the narrative-based sense of self and access deeper states of consciousness more easily.
